Emancipet Keeps Families & Pets Together
Pets are so incredibly special. To most of us, they are our family. Emancipet recognizes how important veterinary care is when it comes to keeping families and pets together.
Sticker Shock
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, over the last decade, human health care hasn’t risen as much as pet health care. In fact, since 2000, the cost of veterinary care has more than doubled.
The high cost of vet care means that many pet owners are taking their pets to the vet less and less. In some cases, the lack of affordable veterinary care is forcing owners to make decisions that no pet owner should have to make. Families facing financial burdens are unable to afford basic wellness care, like vaccinations and flea prevention. In many cases, with no other options in sight, families feel that there is no answer, other than to surrender their pet to a shelter.
While it’s hard to imagine giving up a beloved pet for any reason, in the face of financial hardships, it can seem like the only solution. Families may find they are forced to choose between feeding their children or paying for a lifesaving surgery for their pet.
According to the ASPCA, while an estimated 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year, the main concern before adoption is whether an owner will be able to take on preventative and emergency costs of their family member.
In a 2016 article, Amy Mills, CEO of Emancipet recalled another ASPCA study. That national study found that in the U.S., 1 million people will give up their pets in a given year. “The most heartbreaking data point was that 40 percent of those lower-income people giving up their pets said that if they had access to free or low-cost veterinary care, they would have kept them,” Mills said. “We see a future where there is a safe, affordable vet clinic in every under-served neighborhood.”
At Emancipet, High Quality IS Low Cost
It’s easy to confuse low cost with low quality. Pet owners may fear cutting costs means not having access to quality veterinary care, but nothing could be further from the truth. With 6 locations across Texas (including a mobile clinic) and one in Philadelphia, the Emancipet team continues to serve communities and keep affordable veterinary care accessible to all.
Emancipet client, Lacey credits the team for keeping her cat, Spike healthy:
“It would definitely be harder to take care of Spike if it wasn’t for a low-cost service like Emancipet. Everything is on a budget and taking care of my pets is part of that.”
Emancipet offers microchipping, spay and neuter, vaccinations, surgeries, heartworm treatments, and more. Each clinic offers pet parents everything they need to keep a pet healthy. Transparent pricing means that there are no hidden fees or surprises.
