There are over 50 million beloved pets across the country whose families cannot access or afford veterinary care. We’re changing that. Emancipet’s nonprofit veterinary clinics provide low-cost and free veterinary care to hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats in need.
Saving Lives Through Affordable Heartworm Treatment
Ben had been living on the streets of northwest Houston for more than a year until he was adopted by Allison. After his first veterinary exam revealed he was heartworm-positive, Allison was relieved to learn that Emancipet could provide Ben’s heartworm treatment injections for a fraction of the cost compared to for-profit vet hospitals, and in her words “saved the day!”
Heartworm treatment is a multi-step process and takes about a year to complete. Allison is happy to share that Ben is doing great, he is gentle, friendly and gets along with everyone in the neighborhood including Allison’s cat and other dog.

How Your Support Generates Impact
When Emancipet was founded in 1999 in Austin, Texas, we had a single mobile clinic. It brought our veterinarians to communities in need, to perform 5,000 spay/neuter surgeries each year.
And now, we serve over 240,000 pets in one year alone!
Thanks to your support, we’re expanding nationwide to offer high-quality, affordable veterinary clinics, offer training programs to animal welfare organizations, and advocate for public policy that improves the lives of pets in underserved communities.
We have a bold goal to ensure that everyone in the country has access to affordable veterinary care by 2028 – but we need your support to make that happen!
