Our Mission

Emancipet is on a mission to make veterinary care affordable and accessible for everyone. We’re tackling inequity in the veterinary field because we believe in the power of the bonds between people and their pets and because we believe people love their pets and will do what’s best for them when given the opportunity. We provide access to wellness exams, vaccines, heartworm treatment, spay/neuter (S/N) and special surgeries, and dental procedures through our network of low-cost clinics in Austin, Killeen, and Houston, TX and in Philadelphia, PA.
Why We Do It
What makes Emancipet different is not just what we do but why and how we do it. Our core values – Compassionate Service, Excellence, Teaching & Learning, and Optimism – drive how we “show up” every day and our team shares an abiding commitment to Quality Medical Care, Transformative Experiences (for clients, donors, and staff), and Sustainable Finance.
Emancipet is dedicated to building and supporting a diverse workforce and committed to applying a social justice lens to our work by evaluating and ensuring that our systems, policies, practices, language, and programs create equitable access, opportunities, engagement, and inclusion for all people, and people from historically marginalized groups in particular. We strive to live by our values and be an organization where the culture created by our diverse staff and board advances our mission and vision, and supports organizational excellence and sustainability.

Veterinary Technicians
Veterinary Technicians play a critical role at Emancipet. They are oftentimes the person a client spends the most time with. A lot of our clients end up loving our Vet Techs so much, it’s not uncommon for them to be requested by name.
Our Impact
Since we opened our doors in 1999, our incredible staff have spayed and neutered more than 350,000 pets, and welcomed more than 1 million visitors to our clinics.
Emancipet Crisis Recovery Unit
We are also no strangers to disaster recovery and are proud of the incredible Emancipet women and men that have helped people and their pets after inclement weather strikes.

We’ve participated in several trips to Puerto Rico as part of the Humane Society of the United States’ Spayathon for Puerto Rico project.
The project aims to bring relief to pet owners in need on the still devastated island, which is still struggling to recover from the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Maria.
To help quantify our impact, in one week, our staff of 24 serves approximately 750 families in a MASH-style clinic. Each pet served receives a free spay/neuter surgery and a vaccine. Truly incredibly work, by truly incredible people.
