Six Domains of Quality Care

At Emancipet, we have a clear goal: to make vet care affordable and easy to get for everyone. But we don’t stop there. We work hard to make sure the care we give is the best it can be. Our Chief Medical Team follows six important rules to help us do this – what we call the “Six Domains of Quality Care.” These principles guide our teams and help us care for hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats each year.

Safe: Helping Pets Without Causing Harm

Keeping pets safe is our top priority. Our vet teams are trained to prevent complications, like infections or other problems during surgery. We assess each patient and procedure performed for risks and address them before they can cause harm.

Effective: Giving What’s Needed, Not What’s Not

We only recommend treatments that are proven to work. That means we stay up to date with the latest science and vet research. We make sure pets get what they need—not extra stuff that isn’t helpful. This helps pet families trust us, because they know we’re always honest.

Efficient: Using Time and Tools Wisely

We care for hundreds of thousands of pets every year, so it’s important that we use our time and tools wisely. That means being organized so we can help as many animals as possible. By doing things efficiently, we can keep our prices low and still provide great care.

Patient-Centered: Putting Pets and Families First

Every pet is part of a family, and we treat them that way. We listen to pet families, learn about their needs, and work together to find the best care. We don’t make guesses—we ask, listen, and treat everyone with kindness. We work to remove as much stress as possible for our patients and clients during their visits, and we make our recommendations based on each pet and family’s needs.

Equitable: The Same Great Care for Everyone

Every pet deserves great care, no matter where they come from or how much money their family has. We make sure our care stays the same for everyone. We offer services in different languages, treat everyone with respect, and never let money or identity affect how we help.

Timely: Helping Pets Without Long Waits

Waiting too long for vet care can be hard on pets and their families. That’s why we work to keep wait times short and make care quick and easy. We also use waitlists to text people when it’s their turn so that they don’t have to stay in the clinic during a long wait. We always try to help pets as soon as we can.

What This Means to Us

“Working at Emancipet has changed how I think about quality. It’s not just about using the fanciest tools or the newest, most advanced treatment options – it’s about finding what works for each unique pet and their family. The Six Domains of Quality Care aren’t just ideas—they guide how I care for pets and support their families. These values help me be the kind of vet I’m proud to be.”

— Dr. Mulé, Senior Medical Director, Emancipet

“At Emancipet, I see the six domains in action every day. Safety is prioritized by teaching vet techs proper infection control measures, and monitoring equipment to ensure both animal and staff well-being. Patient-centeredness is ingrained by teaching techs to observe non-verbal cues, understand behavioral signals, and communicate with pet owners to ensure the emotional and physical comfort of each pet. Equity is reflected in training that stresses the importance of treating all animals equally, regardless of their breed, size, or the financial situation of their owners, fostering an inclusive environment where every pet receives the best care. These guidelines are deeply intertwined with the training of our vet techs so they can give top-notch care to every pet..”

—-Katelyn Hunt, Technician Trainer, Emancipet

“Training our technicians through the lens of the Six Domains ensures every interaction is safe, consistent, and compassionate. Whether it’s reducing stress during services or walking a client through post-op instructions in their preferred language, we’re always focused on what’s best for both the pet and their person. Working at Emancipet ensures each family is receiving the care they need. “
