This summer, pet families from across the US shared their favorite snapshots of their pets for Emancipet’s Tails of Summer Photo Contest—and wow, did our community deliver! From silly grins to heart-melting poses, every entry reminded us why pets make life brighter.

Grand Prize Winner: Orie Marie

At 14 years young, Orie is the spirited Border Collie–Australian Shepherd mix whose heart is as boundless as her love for adventure. Her human Angelina said. “On trips to Surfside Beach, Texas, Orie can be found joyfully chasing seagulls along the shoreline, her paws kicking up sand as the ocean breeze ruffles her fur. Back home in Austin, she’s the park’s most dedicated squirrel chaser and the neighborhood’s unofficial cat herder (though the cats may beg to differ).”

But Orie is more than just an athlete—she’s also a master of the fine art of relaxation. Her family notes that she loves pre-bedtime snuggles, naps in sunny spots, and that a steady supply of belly rubs and puppy massages are her love language. And if there’s a treat in the mix? She’ll happily break out her best tricks—paw shakes, spins, and all—for a well-earned reward.

What makes Orie truly special is her gift for knowing exactly when her humans need comfort. With a soft nuzzle, a wag of her tail, and those soulful eyes that say, I’m here for you, Orie reminds her family daily that love, joy, and loyalty never fade with age.

Second Place: Maya

Maya has a personality—and a heart—that are larger than life. Known for strutting her stuff at costume contests and community events, Maya doesn’t just dress up for the applause (or the treats… though she’d never say no).

Her human Jessica notes, “Every wag, wiggle, and wig makes a difference, as she helps raise funds for animal rescues and shelters—giving other pets the same second chance she received.”

With her trademark wrinkles and her unstoppable spirit, Maya is proof that a rescue dog’s story doesn’t end with adoption—it only gets brighter from there.

Third Place: KK

At just 2 ½ years old, KK (short for Candy) has already earned her title as the family princess—and maybe, just maybe, she’s a little spoiled. Known for her boundless affection, KK has two older sisters, an aunt, an uncle, two cousins and more. She adores her big family and showers them with love.

But don’t let her sweet side fool you—KK has a mischievous streak according to her family. “When the zoomies hit, she’ll sprint around the house like a whirlwind, especially circling her uncle, Weirdo the dachshund, who barks in protest as he tries (and fails) to keep up.”

With her playful cow-like spots and her side-eye when snacks are late, KK keeps her family laughing every single day. KK’s family brings KK and her pack to Emancipet’s Levander Loop clinic for vaccines and nail trims, where she continues to live her best, happy (and slightly spoiled) life.

Thank You to Everyone Who Participated!
