At Emancipet, we believe every pet family deserves to give their pet a healthy, happy, and long life. That’s why we’re proud to have established the Austin Dental & Surgical Center (ADS) in 2024, the first-of-its-kind in Central Texas (and the nation!) dedicated to providing high-volume, low-cost dental and surgical care for pets.
We understand that financial constraints shouldn’t prevent beloved pets from receiving the essential care they need. ADS is our commitment to breaking down those barriers, making sure that every pet, regardless of their family’s income or circumstances, can get the dental care they deserve. Here are two patient stories from February 2025 that demonstrate how we’re making a real difference in the lives of pets and their families across Central Texas.
Helping Pet Families Get Dental Care on a Fixed Income
Morgan, a ten-year-old Pomeranian mix, found relief and a brighter smile thanks to our dedicated team at Austin Dental and Surgical Center (ADS). Morgan’s human, Stacy, shared that Morgan was suffering from severe dental pain. Like many pet owners in Central Texas, especially those on fixed incomes, affording necessary veterinary care can be a significant challenge. Stacy found herself facing this reality after attempting to find care through another local veterinarian.
“The vet visit alone was $200 for this,” she explained. “They quoted me $1,300 for the dental procedure that Morgan needed.”
For someone on a fixed budget, this was a very big expense. That’s when she remembered Emancipet’s commitment to accessible veterinary care and turned to us once again.
“I had originally found Emancipet’s Killeen Clinic from my daughter when Morgan and I moved here in 2016. I had needed a low-cost spay and immunizations for Morgan. Your services were a gift from God for us! I visited the Emancipet website for information on dental care and found that I just needed to get her dental evaluation through one of your clinics for a referral to the Austin Dental and Surgical Center (ADS).”
And that’s exactly what happened. After a consultation in Killeen, Morgan was referred to ADS. The team quickly assessed her needs and scheduled Morgan for the necessary dental procedure.
“Three weeks later she had her dental care taken care of at a very low-cost!!” Morgan’s owner exclaimed. This price made it possible for her to provide her beloved companion with the care she desperately needed. “This was sooo very important and helpful to us. I knew Morgan was suffering from dental pain and without this blessing I couldn’t have helped her.”
At Emancipet, we understand the deep bond between pets and their families. We’re committed to providing high-quality, affordable veterinary care to pet families that need it, right here in Central Texas. Morgan’s story is a testament to the power of accessible care and the difference it can make in the lives of pets and their owners.
Uno’s Life-Saving Dental Surgery

Imagine having to consider euthanasia for your pet because you can’t find affordable and timely veterinary care? That’s the heartbreaking choice Uno’s family faced in February since his teeth were causing him unbearable pain and they couldn’t find the care he needed.
The family felt like they had no other choice… but then they walked into our Norwood Clinic! Our team quickly evaluated Uno’s teeth and were able to schedule his surgery with Dr. Brunson from our Austin Dental & Surgical Center next door. She performed the life-saving procedure a few days later.
Uno, the senior chihuahua, is now home with his family: relieved, recovering, and ready to make many more happy memories together.
“Thank you to Emancipet for performing dental surgery and saving Uno’s life.” – Taylor, Uno’s Owner.
At Emancipet, we’re committed to making sure that no pet owner has to face the impossible choice of euthanasia due to financial constraints. Uno’s story is a powerful reminder of how our pet families benefit when accessible veterinary care is available to all.
How Do I Know if My Cat/Dog Needs a “Dental Cleaning”?
Dental care for dogs and cats is an important part of keeping them healthy. The major difference between pets and people is that pets need to be under general anesthesia for us to do a complete oral exam, cleaning and take x-rays of the teeth (an important step to see what is happening below the surface of the teeth).
Routine dentals include a complete dental cleaning, polishing and x-rays of the teeth. These are preventative and are recommended for small dogs and cats starting at 1 year of age and 2 years of age for larger dogs. Your pet’s genetics, home dental health routine, and lifestyle contribute to how often they need to see the dentist for preventative care. Most veterinarians recommend preventative dentals annually.
Advanced dentals include a complete dental cleaning, polishing, x-rays of the teeth and removal of unhealthy teeth. These are recommended for any pet determined to have dental disease by their veterinarian and pets 7 years and older. Your pet may give you a clue that they have dental disease if you notice a bad odor coming from their mouth, see discolored or broken teeth, or notice them having difficulty eating. Walk-in to Any of Our Central Texas Clinics for a Dental Evaluation!
If you’re a Central Texas pet owner struggling to afford dental care, please consider walking into any one of our Clinics for a Healthy Pet Service visit. During your visit you can receive a dental evaluation. This will be a quick, awake, oral exam performed by one of our doctors. Based on the Emancipet doctor’s evaluation, we will recommend your pet be scheduled for a routine or advanced dental procedure. Please note, this evaluation must be performed by Emancipet, an exam by an outside veterinarian will not be accepted. Learn more about our dental cleanings and prices here.
