Philadelphia has a population of roughly 1.5 million people, with about 48% of the population caring for a pet. It’s no surprise that our Philadelphia Emancipet clinics see nearly 50,000 visits annually.

Visits from pets like Moana, who found our clinic in one of the scariest moments of her pet parent Angela’s life–when Moana required life-saving surgery in a pinch.

Angela noticed changes in Moana’s behavior from one day to the next and decided that she needed to bring her in for an emergency visit. Sure enough, when they arrived at our Adams Avenue Emancipet clinic in Philadelphia, PA, our team was able to diagnose her with pyometra, a severe and life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus. In a moment of fear, the last thing Angela wanted to worry about was the cost of the care she was about to receive.

From the moment that they arrived at our clinic, Angela said that she was met with kindness, the attention she needed, and all the love of our team.

“Me hicieron sentir tranquila y confiada durante un momento muy preocupante para nuestra familia,” said Angela. “Además, el precio fue muy razonable, algo que también agradezco muchísimo.”

“They made me feel calm and confident during a very worrying time for our family. Plus, the price was very reasonable, which I also greatly appreciate.”

Flavia’s story reflects something we see every day across Emancipet clinics. Pet parents want to do the right thing, but cost can stand in the way.

Situations like Moana’s are why contributions from the Rachael Ray Foundation are so vital–It allows the pet families that enter our clinics care for their pets without cost becoming a barrier.

This care was made possible in part by the Rachael Ray Foundation, whose ongoing support of Emancipet’s Pay It Forward program helps remove financial barriers so pets can get the care they need, when they need it.

Moana’s story is a reminder that when care is accessible, everything changes for pets and the people who love them.
